i am not officially part of the blog hop this month for the OLW class because i forgot to email our wonderful leader Lee in time :(
being home for less than 2 weeks of an already short month is my excuse!! so...if you've managed to find your way over from the class message board, thanks so much for making the effort...to the rest of my blog readers, as always, i appreciate you being here...
the february assignment for ali's one little word class was to create a vision board...i was so excited because i totally loved the activity when i did it last year with my whole family...
i planned ahead for the activity and started saving magazines for about 3-4 months prior, so that when we sat down together, we had lots of inspiration...this year with my word being balance, i have been choosing to buy fewer magazines and i don't like to let magazines pile up once they've been read; therefore, i didn't have as many mags to flip through for this year's board and my process was much different...rather than tearing, cutting and gluing in one afternoon, i spent the entire month collecting images and words that spoke to me...then last night (nothing like leaving things to the last minute!) i went through all the bits & pieces and started pulling out my absolute faves...
this is what i ended up with...
i find it so interesting when you do this exercise how certain things keep popping up...being february, it's not surprising that the word love kept appearing...but for some reason it spoke to me and two of the five images i tore out made it onto my board...as a side note we came across 3 scupltures of the word love while we were on our trip and i also bought one of these from the m&m shop in london...
the word rouge (red in French) also kept appearing...i even found a cool photo of a scale sculpture in an art magazine...since i am doing some scraproom reorganizing and purging i found the old large "Three Bugs in A Rug" coloured letters that i decided to put to good use on this page to spell out BALANCE since my OLW did not reveal itself to me in any magazine!
i know that some fellow classmates used pinterest and digital images to generate their vision boards and they are beautiful, but i believe there is something magical and visceral when you cull through numerous and varied magazines; rather than looking for something specific that you have googled, you simply let the images and words speak to you as you flip pages...there isn't always a rhyme or reason and i think that's what makes this such a serendipitous process...you have to listen to that inner, whispering voice rather than making choices with your head; that being said, i manipulated certain words to work with some of the goals i've set out with my word this year...obviously there's no right or wrong way to creating a vision board and if you're interested in a more detailed explanation about them you can read Martha Beck's article here...
i will be putting an 8x10 photo of my vision board in my OLW album and the original will hang in my office right over top of last years...i like the idea that the old one is still there but hidden...and i have decided that this will definitely become a yearly project...
if you haven't done one of these yet, i highly recommend it, if for no other reason than being able to cut and paste with wild abandon!!!

So pretty! I love your use of large fonts to spell "balance." I got a kick out of the whole cutting and pasting as well! Make you feel like a kid! Nice job!

VERONICA!! I'm so sorry I messed up - apology over on the board and I've added your blog link to the "hop list" on my blog. I know a few of the other ladies did as well.
Your board is fabulous! Thanks so much for participating :D

Your board is great. I was one of the classmates who went digi with it... but I'm still collecting magazine clippings - just didn't have enough to work with. I still hope to do this the old fashioned way!

The addition of your word down the side is great - I like the balance across your board too and really must get to go into the M&M store one day - I've been past several times!
